Mount Juliet, Conrad

Mount Juliet is a 1500 acre walled estate dating from the 15th century. The trees in the present landscape are most likely those of the 18th century, with remnants from the original plantings. The most dominant species are mature, magnificent oak and beech. The extensive walled garden has lawns, flowering shrubs and double herbaceous borders. From early summer to late autumn these provide a changing pageant of flowers and a spectacle of colour. A new addition here is the 'Geranium Collection', a magnificent sight from June to August. The herb garden, established in the early 1700s, produces a prolific selection of herbs, used daily in the hotel's kitchens. There is a formal rose garden, an informal rockery and a water garden. Some ornamental species can be found in an informal arboretum around the hotel and grounds, including Japanese maple, robinia, red oak, turkey oak, cedar, horse chestnut and plane.
