Bantry
House and Gardens
Bantry House is the ancestal home of the Earls of Bantry. The title lapsed in 1891 but the house is still owned and lived in by the direct descendant of the 1st Earl of Bantry, Egerton Shelswell-White and his family. Since 1946 the House and Garden has been opened to the public daily between Mid March and end October. The House has an important collection of art treasures mainly collected by the 2nd Earl on his grand tour. The Garden was inspired by his travels and is laid out in the Italianate style over seven terraces, south facing parterre surrounding a wisteria circle and fountain.
Through out the open season, visitors can enjoy lunches, home made cakes and dinners in our licensed West Wing Cafe Bistro. www.westwingcafe.net
Bantry House hosts a number of events including classical and traditional music festivals, product launches, theatre productions, and food festivals. The House is also registered as an authorised civil wedding ceremony venue and hosts weddings both summer time and winter. Classical but modern designed guest accommodation is available for visitors in the East Wing and a Failte Ireland 3*** approved self catering gatelodge is available on a weekly basis.
