Ballindoolin House and Garden

Ballindoolin is a country demesne with a large Georgian country house and farmyard built in 1821. The present owner’s family has lived there since 1895. The interior of the house is in an intact state with all it’s original plasterwork, joinery and fireplaces, and much of the original furniture. Guided tours are available at set times. From old photographs the 2 acre walled garden has been restored to its original 19th century design with many rare plants and shrubs. It is now a working kitchen garden supplying the house with fresh vegetables. There is a 100m herbaceous border, a parterre, old fashioned flower and shrub borders, and fruit and vegetable gardens. The pleasure gardens have many magnificent 200 year old trees and a Victorian rockery.

In the woods there is a 11/2 mile Heritage and Nature Trail and a Tree Folklore Trail, which passes a rare shamrock, shaped dove cote, a lime kiln and an iron age mound. There is a demesne museum in the farmyard. Ballindoolin Gardens has been restored with the assistance of an EDRF grant through Bord Failte, under the Great Gardens of Ireland Restoration Programme, Leader 2 and FÁS.
